This is ‘Destiny,’ a painting I made to contemplate about the inevitable.
Working at a carwash learned me that the most common reaction to a dirty car is to pay fifteen euros to get it cleaned. In this work, part of a diptych, I wonder about a different approach towards the inevitable dirt. Using car lacquer I applied a permanent messy image, providing a shortcut to destiny. The brown colours and the title ‘Destiny’ together refer to the place where most destinies lie: the earth.
The painting is depicting a destination that is both apocalyptic and spectacular. I think it’s worth to take a good look at it instead of rushing to the carwash to ignore the unavoidable.
